“Good morning sweetie!” my mother chimed brightly as I walked down the stairs. “I made your favorite, pancakes and bacon!”
She was trying too hard to make me feel good this morning. I didn’t know what she thought she was accomplishing. Nothing would make me feel any differently than I did right now.
“Well, sit down and eat!” she said, still smiling as sickeningly brightly as ever.
“Mom, it’s already 7:30, I’ll miss the bus.” I grumbled, but stuffed my mouth full of pancake anyway. My mother continued to smile. “Okay, well, don’t forget your lunch! I don’t want you to be hungry all day.”
I took the lunch bag without a word, then stood up to wait outside at the bus stop.
The bus ride was as awful as I thought it was going to be. People made fun of my hair, my clothes, even the stupid lunch bag that my mother had forced into my hands. The kids on my bus were ruthless today.
School was just as fun. My teachers picked on me when I didn’t know the answers, and everyone laughed when I said something foolish.
The best time of the day was when I sat in the bathroom stall during lunch. I opened the secret hole in the wall behind the toilet paper dispenser, and smiled at the shiny metal weapon reflecting all the solutions to my problems.

“Somebody is going to pay for this.”
